The Fourth Wall Comics Podcast Episode 72

4 01 2010

Show Notes:
The Fourth Wall Podcast is back and better than ever with our coverage on last week’s Indy Comic Book Week extravaganza. We spent the past few days narrowing down all the titles and picking our favorites and we’ve got our top three books.

But that’s just to start with.

We also have reviews of all the indies we missed out during our winter hiatus and wrapping it all up, the boys sum up 2009 with our (indie) year in review, so if you’re a Fourth Wall Faithful or just joining us for the first time, be sure to check this week’s Fourth Wall Comics Podcast above.

Lastly, we would like to say thank you to the geniuses that came with this wonderful idea, thanks to all the creators that shared with us their creations and gave us something to talk about, and thanks to all the supporters of ICBW.

Here’s to 2010 and to next year’s ICBW.

INDY COMIC BOOK WEEK Ends Today

30 12 2009

So if you haven’t heard already, a vast majority of comic publishers — pretty much all of them — have decided to take this week off. Hell, even the Big Two, due to scheduling or in an interest to save a few bucks, have virtually nothing  coming out at your local comics shops save for the one comic (DC) and… a calendar (Marvel)?

Seriously?!?

Anyway, none of this wouldn’t be a big deal since we were planning on bring back one of our famous double-sized podcasts for our latest Best of, but then we heard word of this (Originally posted on the ICBW blog: http://indycomicbookweek.blogspot.com):

The other month Diamond Comic Distributors announced to comic shops that Diamond will not be shipping comics on the last week of December. That means on Wednesday, there will not be any new comics on the shelf of your local comic shop. There has been some talk about Diamond’s firm hold on the comic distribution industry, but I want to look past that and look at the opportunity this creates for small publishers and local comic book creators. This is a perfect storm that opens up those new release shelves for the independent community. We don’t have to be set aside to the small publisher shelf for once and can stand tall in the spots that the big, national publishers usually take. Not only is this an opportunity for creators, it’s a great opportunity for the reader as well. Instead of picking up their usual books, they can check out something new, different, and most likely something local.

In response to this, we at The Fourth Wall are coming back from our holiday hiatus early with our all-indie Comics Podcast. Our focus will be on all things Independent: from our reviews on some of this week’s ICBW exclusive titles, cover some books from such publishers like Radical, Dark Horse, and Dynamite that slipped through the cracks while we were away, and weigh in about our all-time favorites that weren’t made by anyone mainstream, so stay tuned for that.

But for right now, we’re here to help get the word out. We hope to do more justice with all this the next time ICBW comes around, but for now we leave it in the hands of the professionals.
