Save The Middleman!!!

3 09 2008

The Middleman, the show I’ve mentioned a few times, needs your help.

If you’ve never seen the show, here’s a handy description from Alan Sepinwall, Star-Ledger Reporter and hardcore Middleman fan.

In specific terms, “Middleman” is a hilarious, giddy mash-up of “Men in Black,” superhero comics and ’60s spy adventures. It’s the story of Wendy Watson (Natalie Morales), an unemployed artist who gets recruited by a square-jawed, milk-drinking government agent called The Middleman (Matt Keeslar) to help him fight — and cover up the existence of — alien invaders, demon succubi, masked Luchador wrestlers with dreams of world domination, and other colorful menaces. It’s smart and self-aware without being smug, it is aggressively silly (tonight’s episode opens with Wendy on a date at a WWII-themed restaurant called The Batter of the Bulge Pancake House), and it is about the most fun you can have watching TV without chemical enhancement.

The first season’s all said and done as the season (and hopefully not series) finale aired earlier this week, but there’s still no word on Season Two. So I hopped on the Web looking for ways to make sure the show stays on.

And here’s what I found, straight from the guys from Audibly Lost:

  • The Official Website ( ) is a good start and a good way to give the powers that be your thoughts via the forums. Watch the episodes while you comment on the blogs.
  • iTunes is another way you can watch the episodes. Since ABC Family only keeps the last three episodes, this is the best to see Season One from the beginning. [ You gotta pay, but hey, it’s only two bucks an episode. ]
  • ( ) hosts some sweet viewing parties you might want to check out. Make friends and save a series.
  • Ever hear of The Nielsen Rating System? If you have or haven’t, go here: ( and learn how to vote.
  • Like podcasts? Like The Middleman? Then check out The Middlecast ( and as you listen to exclusive interviews with the cast & crew, you can come up with more ways of saving the show. [ I heard something about M&M’s… ]
  • But the best way is to watch the show live, at it’s regular time on ABC Family every Monday at 10p.m.

So do your part and keep that bubble from bursting.

I’d like to take this time to thank two great sites Audibly Lost and What’s Alan Watching? and their respective site owners and operators for leading the charge in keeping the best new show of 2008 on the air. My hat goes off to the both of you.

I’d also like to thank Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Matt Keeslar, Natalie Morales, and the rest of the cast and crew of The Middleman for making something worth saving.
